Hints for oral presentations

Peter Flach and Tim Kovacs

Do not:
  1. Read long parts of your slides -- this is boring for the audience.
  2. Look at your slides or notes instead of the audience.
  3. Put too much text on your slides.
  4. Fidget with your notes.
Do:
  1. Try to make things as simple as possible, but no simpler.
  2. Put the title and your name on the first slide.
  3. Outline the structure of your talk.
  4. Use slide numbers.
  5. Rehearse your talk 2 or 3 times. It will go much more smoothly if you do.
  6. Make eye contact with everyone in the audience.
  7. Speak clearly and loudly (and not too quickly).
  8. Relax.
